Everyone loves an underdog right? Well, here’s your chance to root one on!
Little Cambridge United welcomes Manchester United to the cozy confines of the 4,736 seat Abbey Stadium. The 2 clubs are separated by 76 places in the English league table as the FA Cup enters the 4th round. This is the English version of our NCAA March Madness with this match being the equivalent of the 16 seed v the 1 seed. The crowd will be singing and chanting from the opening whistle as they will be able to squeeze another 3,000+ fans in standing room only areas in this tiny little ground, so do yourself a favor and watch this one if you can.
***FUN FACT*** Cambridge United is definitely my new favorite club now that I know that when they were founded in 1912, they were known as Abbey United.
Here’s your match preview. Also, it looks like I’m not the only one fired up to see this match. Park and Ride services are being expanded in Cambridge for the match on Friday. Who else gives you coverage on an obscure team like this huh??!!?
Coverage starts Friday at 3:00 PM on
Our youngsters got a very real taste of what CONCACAF has in store for them in their match v Trinidad & Tobago on Wednesday. On a god-awful pitch, the over-matched opponent did enough to blunt the Yanks superior skill and attacking abilities and showed just enough quality around the net to threaten and steal a victory, but our lads soldiered on and were rewarded with a 78′ winner from Bradford Jamieson IV in the 1-0 win.
With the win, we’ve advanced to a play-off with El Salvador on Saturday for a berth at the U-20 World Cup this summer in New Zealand.
Here are your highlights:
When I see that someone has 2 goals and an assist, I expected to see some cool highlights after such a good performance…then I see it was Sacha Kljestan.
As you can see from the highlights below, his teammates probably just told him, “Hey Sacha, just go stand in front of the goal and we’ll bounce it off of you.” If you think I’m being too harsh, this is how he scored his last goal too!!! Anyway, his club Anderlecht rolled over S.V. Zulte Waregem in the quarter final of the Belgian Cup.
He takes part in the first 3 goals in the highlight below.
I shared an article with you the other day on the “disappearance” of Juan Agudelo. Seemingly right on cue, there are rumors that he is considering a contract with 1860 Munich in Germany’s 2nd tier.
Speaking of our Yanks in Germany, MLSsoccer.com put together a report card for our boys playing in the Bundesliga so far this season.
I’ve tried to keep you up-to-date on the “Minnesota Messi” Mukwelle Akale, but the info has been tough to come by. There were some rumors that he was playing with Villarreal CF’s U-18s, but I could never confirm for some reason. Well, finally, it looks like now that he’s turned 18, he’s officially joined the El Submarino Amarillo (The Yellow Submarine). Let’s hope he has more success than Jozy did when he went there in ’08!
